Our Lutheran understanding of the church sees ministry as being shared by all the baptized people of God.  At no time can we assume that only the pastor and lay professionals are responsible for ministry.  The whole people of God have a ministry with and to one another.  It is a mutual ministry.  Out of this understanding of ministry emerges the rational behind a congregational mutual ministry committee.

The ministry of any pastor and congregation is strengthened when there exists a small group who act out of mutual concern for the pastor and the congregation.  It is a place for open honest dialog about ministry and a sounding board for the pastor.

Areas in which Mutual Ministry Committee can be utilized:

• To provide positive feedback and affirm pastor.

• Become a listening post for pastors and the people.

• The Mutual Ministry Team is to serve as a listening post for members of the congregation.

• Sharing with the pastor the expectations of the congregation.
